The price of a security screen door mainly comes down to five things: the mesh (stainless steel like Invisi-Gard costs the most, while perforated aluminium like Alu-Gard and diamond grilles cost less), the size and type of door (hinged, sliding or double), the locks and hardware, the frame colour and how tricky the install is. Every opening is different, so the accurate price is a measured quote, which we do for free.
If you've searched "security screen doors Townsville prices", you'll have noticed most companies don't put a number on it. That's not to be cagey. A security door is made to fit one particular opening, and a handful of choices move the price up or down. Here's what they are, so you know what you're paying for.
1. What the screen is made of
This makes the biggest difference. There are three main options, from most to least expensive:
- Invisi-Gard: woven 316 marine-grade stainless steel mesh. The finest to see through and the best near salt air, with a lifetime warranty on the mesh for homes and 15 years on the frame.
- Alu-Gard: perforated aluminium sheet. A similar clean, modern look for less, with a 7-year warranty.
- Diamond grille: a traditional aluminium grille with a separate insect screen behind it. One of the most affordable ways to secure a door.
Alspec, the Australian company behind Invisi-Gard and Alu-Gard, puts Invisi-Gard at the top of its price range and Alu-Gard and its diamond grille at the more affordable end. We've compared all three side by side.
2. The size and type of door
- A standard hinged door is the simplest job.
- Sliding doors need their own track and rollers.
- Double doors, extra-wide openings and tall doors use more screen and more hardware.
3. Locks and hardware
Security doors use proper security locks, and many use a three-point lock that latches at the top, middle and bottom. Lock choices and extras like keying several doors alike can change the price.
4. Colour and finish
Frames are powder coated, so you can match your windows, trim or front door. Invisi-Gard frames come in a wide range of colours. Bring it up at the measure and we'll show you what's available.
5. Installation and extras
Every screen is measured and fitted by our team. Older homes with out-of-square frames can take more work to fit properly, and removing old screens adds a little time. A pet door is another common extra, but read this first: adding one changes the door's security rating.
How to keep the cost down
- Start with the doors you use most. The back door and the sliding door to the patio are where most families want the breeze.
- Mix products. Invisi-Gard where it matters most, like the front door or doors near the water, and Alu-Gard or diamond grille elsewhere.
- Do it once. A good security door should last for years, so it's worth choosing the right one rather than replacing a cheap one later.

Common questions
Is Invisi-Gard worth paying more for?
It depends on your home. Invisi-Gard's 316 stainless steel mesh is the finest to see through, handles salt air best and has the longest warranty. On a tighter budget, Alu-Gard or a diamond grille still gives you a tested security door for less.
What makes a screen door a security door?
The screen, frame, locks, hinges and installation all matter. A screen door is only a true security door when it has proper security locks and hinges and is installed to the Australian standard.
Is the measure and quote really free?
Yes. We come to you, measure every opening, talk you through the options and give you a quote. There's no cost and no obligation.
